Mediterranean Cruise Pt.1,June 07
The family and I were lucky enough to take a 10 day cruise on the Mediterranean Sea. It goes without saying that this was a trip of a lifetime. Its one of the biggest influences of the ancient human civilizations. And the ports we stopped at speak for themselves-Barcelona,Palermo,Naples,Sardinia,Civitavecchia(Rome) La Spezia(Pisa,Florence)Marseilles,Villefranche(Monaco,Cannes,Nice.) Its not easy traveling these crowded cities with 12 adults and 3kids+a one year old but under the circumstances we did superb. Its hard to pick a favorite spot,Rome was definitely one of the most impressive. St. Peter's Basilica should be the 8th wonder of the world. My camera could never do it justice. La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona was another awe-inspiring sight,it was started around 1900 and isn't expected to be finished until 2026,i believe. Villefranche,France was by far the most beautiful port. Olbia,Sardinia had some of blue'est waters and is truly the pearl of the Mediterranean. Its one of the least talked about locations and for good reason, many prefer to keep it a secret. Kent,Beth and I hooked up with a terrific local that has visited (and lived) there for around 20 years. He took us all over the area, really showing us things and taking us places that we would have never seen on our own. A big thanks to Michael! His website is http://www.locationsardinia.com/, if you ever wanna visit this place and go diving or tour the island by bike or boat then use him. Pompei and Naples were also very cool. Thanks esp to our guide, the legendary,Mario. He called one of his many connections in Napoli and was able to reserve us a table for 15!! The Restaurant was named I Re De Napoli-if your ever in Naples go there for sure. There was no better place to go in the birthplace of pizza. I'll also never forget seeing the leaning tower of Pisa. Worth the short trip by train. FYI,If you take trains and the subway in Italy you'll save big. And its far more enjoyable than riding a giant tour bus full of.....tourists. I could talk about this trip forever so i may as well stop now. Thanks again mom and dad.
